The Sleeping Bag is My Goddess, and the Bean Bag Her Handmaiden

Well well well. Round two of my adventures in babysitting. I am becoming slowly convinced that, contrary to any previous belief - or rather, disbelief - I had in myself, the forces of nature have indeed endowed me with some adequate, if not exemplary, skills in motherhood. It is 8:54 p.m., and all three girls are in bed. Not only is this amazing in and of itself, but particularly when one considers that my apartment is only slightly larger than my station wagon. There are four - count them, four - people in this house right now, and I'd be surprised if the neighbors are even aware. Granted, not all three children are *sleeping*, but 1 1/2 out of 3 ain't bad. Ava's been knocked out for the last hour, Juli is trying to sleep - I can hear the occasional serious tone from the bedroom ("MADDIE. GO TO SLEEP.") - and Maddie, my child, is the one still up and gabbing away (go figure).
I fucking rock.
Hard to believe that I haven't been able to find the time to write with Maddie around, but the night I have three children in my house, it's no problem. Then again, I have Juli here to help keep Maddie in bed. :)
Brief synopsis of recent events:

1. I'm really glad that Dead President Week is over. I was starting to get really depressed, not because I had big love for Reagan (quite the opposite, actually), but because it was just heartbreaking to watch little 82-year-old Nancy Reagan waving to people from the plane, or gently patting the casket which holds the man she loved for 60-plus years. I simply cannot imagine having to watch my best friend and life partner slowly melt away over a ten year period, right in front of my eyes. Whether I agreed with the man's politics or not, it's always sad to see someone die of Alzheimer's disease. The next person who tells me, "I'm so glad that fucker's dead," is going to get some soapbox from yours truly. No one deserves to go through that.

2. Kill Bill is fucking rad. I know I'm a little behind, what with the sequel already being out and all, but if you haven't seen the first one yet, I highly recommend it. Uma Thurman kicking ass, a scene in anime, ridiculous amounts of fake blood, and Uma Thurman kicking ass. What's not to like?

3. Some recommended reading: The Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Seierstad, and Stupid White Men by Michael Moore. Just finished reading the former, starting on the latter. Seierstad's book is a look inside the family of a bookseller in Kabul shortly after the fall of the Taliban. It's amazing to see how different family life is there, and how much is the same. Highly recommended, particularly for women. Moore's book is fucking hilarious from what I've read so far, which is only up to page 7. Seven pages, plus the intro, and I'm completely engrossed. It's disturbing - but in my opinion, important - to rehash the details of our last presidential election. No matter what your politics are, Moore's books are packed with enough research, statistics, and political satire to both light a match under your ass and warm the literary heart. His talent for writing is just phenomenal, whether you agree with his opinions or not. Only in America....

Alright. That's all I've got time for tonight. Time to read a little and hit the sack - Ava will be waking up around six. The Clare got booked completely, so Greg had to bump Tracey and Jason's reservation. Being the amazingly cool guy he is, Greg has given them his room. Which means he'll be staying here. He won't be done working until 3 or 4 in the morning, which means the most sleep he's going to get tonight is 3 hours, maybe 4 if Ava falls back asleep after her morning bottle (which Trace said is possible if I feed her in bed - thanks for the tip!). What a fucking rock star. AND he's apparently closing the bar every night this week.
See the Amazing Hamster Wheel Man! Watch him run in circles for days on end!
Jesus. At some point this week, I swear I'm going to chain him down to something and stuff him full of warm milk and cookies.
Bedtime for Supermom. More stories to come...
