Well done, then. Carry on.

"Mom, can I kiss you on the lips, like this?"
(makes kissy face, moving face in a circular motion and humming, "mmmmm...")
"You mean, like Greg and I kiss?"
"Yes."
"No."
"Why?"
"That's inappropriate. That kind of kissing is only for girlfriends and boyfriends. Or husbands and wives. Girlfriends and girlfriends.... It's for lovers."
"But, MOOOom. I AM love."

While swapping toddler stories last night with my hairdresser, she informed me that her five-year-old son, while laying on his parents' new mattress the other day, asked "Can we have sex?" She asked where he heard about it (NOWHERE), if he knew what it meant (NO), and told him that he was too young to know but that it was something he would never do with his mother. "Okay", he said...seemed enough to settle his curiosity. Out of the mouths of babes!
Love,
Mom

Good God, I hope we don't hit that one any time soon! The (somewhat) reassuring thing is, though, that simple answers seem to satisfy them. Maddie asked me the other day where we go when we die, and two sentences into my philosophical explanation ("Well, some people believe... and others believe..."), she cut me off to ask for a hot dog. Moments like that, I'm grateful for the short attention span. :)
