Are we there yet, huh, huh, are we?

Only two days 'til take-off!

To do in Memphis (so far): Sun Records, Shangri-La Records, Graceland, Putt-Putt Family Land (go-karts! bumper boats!), Full Gospel Tabernacle Church (touch me, Al Green), and some BBQ joint that's actually a gas-station-turned-BBQ (my dream come true - thanks, Bob Bleed).

Just a note: Today is Juliana's Third Birthday (yes, that gets capitalization)! Happy Birthday, Julibean!

Weekend jollies:
Went to the Cheaters Car Show on Saturday with Kurt (after recovering from Friday night (note to self: White Russians bad)). Got to ride around in the Fairlane (50something, I think - red, shiny, lots of knobs and whistles), which was a lot of fun for me. Saw the Kellys perform at Danceworks that night - great show. I'd be crying right now if I wasn't signed up for ballet in the fall. But I am. So, yay!
Took Maddie to the park on Sunday to watch Kurt and Co. play kickball. Maddie had her very own Blue's Clues ball, and was excited to see everyone running around in circles.

Off to do laundry/start packing! Must make compilation CDs....me love road trips.

Cool by association?

Just so everyone knows, the picture of me you now see displayed to your left is Tracey's doing. I did not put a picture of myself there. The end.

New happenings... Not much. Busting ass at work. Counting the days (6!) to my vacation. Have been invited (by Kurt's ex-girlfriend...??!!?) to model in a fashion show in September, a show by and for people who are younger and cooler than I. Most of the other people involved are kind of "known" in the arts scene and/or ex-girlfriends of some other people I know. We'll see.

Sample Conversation, Four Weeks From Now, Backstage at the Fashion Ninja Fashion Show:
(Me): "Uh, hey guys. How's it goin."
(Random Cool People): "......."
(Me): "Um, so what do you guys do when you're not modeling in cool fashion shows?"
(Random Cool Person): "I'm a photographer, artist - I paint - and I write deep stuff in my journal about the human condition."
(Random Cool Person's Cool Friend): "I don't do anything. I find that work is just another tool our fascist capitalistic empire, Heil George W., uses to control our minds, bodies, and spirit. I spend most of my time writing editorials to various left-wing magazines, spouting my opinions and judgments to anyone who will listen. I don't fuck men, and I don't shave my armpits. I do drink - only local brews - at Onopa, and I do shop resale. So, like, what do _you_ do."
(Me): "I potty train."

Yeah. We'll see.

Gotta love the south

It would seem that camping will not be necessary, after all. I did a little search online yesterday for Memphis hotels, and they are CHEAP! Dirt cheap. Like, forty bucks a night. The Rock 'N Roll Suite at the Heartbreak Hotel, however, is not cheap. I was hoping for a little extra special treat during our stay, but that extra special treat costs $469 a night. Uh, I don't think so.

Went to Bartlett yesterday on a whim to visit Trace and Juli. Relaxed poolside, watched Juli spaz out. It's funny to watch Maddie's reaction to Juli sometimes. Their temperaments are so opposite, and it's really fun to watch Juli coax Maddie into copying her, being all spastic. Also, Trace showed me how to add links onto this page, so...

Tracey's Page is self-explanatory. The Reverse and The Mistreaters are two local bands that I know and love - The Reverse is Kurt's (semi-defunct) band, and The Mistreaters are some friends of mine from the Pal and the Cactus Club. If you like what you see on the Treaters' site, don't hesitate to send the boys some dough via the link on the site! These poor boys lost their van and all their equipment - guitars, mikes, drums, David's flannels, everything - to the Great Van Fire of 2003. I normally don't like advertising like this, and wouldn't, but these boys are friends of mine and I love them a lot. And this is my site. So there. I'm also thinking about an interactive page where a little Kurt doll will take off articles of clothing according to the amount people donate....hmmmm....

Yay!

Well, well, well. Thanks to my dear friends Tracey and Jason, it would appear that I have entered the cyberworld. For those of you who are wondering what this site is about, here's a quick answer: me! Feel free to come to this page whenever your little heart desires to hear all about life in my neck of the woods.

News of today: As of 9:20:06 AM, I am the proud owner of two Platinum Tour tickets to Graceland. Yours truly, and my trusty co-navigator, Mr. Kurt Schoenung, will be headed out to see THE KING next Thursday, August 28th (nine days, count them, nine!). Our personal, self-navigated tour of Elvis' abode - as well as his office space, meditation garden, and special trophy house (the man needed an extra BUILDING for his awards...) - is scheduled for precisely 2:30 PM on Saturday the 30th.

I am freakin' ecstatic. My excitement has been slightly dampened, however, by my discovery that my Discover card isn't nearly as, shall we say, "available" for my financial needs as I would have liked. Looks like we'll be camping a night or two, which is fine by me. Tent schment. Who needs a tent when you've got the Memphis sky to blanket your dreams...
